Felt

Felt is an experimental project that focuses on creating a piece of work that lives comfortably in ambiguity. Through this project, I wanted to tackle the established concept of functionality. Does an object need to be restricted and degraded to its designated use or form? The outcome of my research project is a simple piece of laminated textiles. The polymer mesh, located in between two pieces of soft fabric, gives strength to the objects created by the maker.

The project, your canvas, can be formed or reformed into any desired shape by steaming or ironing the fabric. Once the textile is hot, it becomes active and mouldable. The making process becomes intimate to the user.

The early stages of my Felt project involved conceptual sketching and cardboard gestural prototyping.

The goal was to study how can ergonomic shapes be found through an intuitive and tactile process. When creating a piece of furniture, I strive to learn from the materials I work with. The conversation between the designer and the material is at the core of my practice.
